About The KRS Workbook for Kids

The Kindness Rocks & Smiles Community Project™ is a multimedia, community-based art project that along with this workbook—which can be used independently or as a companion guide—is a space where everyone is welcome and appreciated, as both extraordinary individuals of all ages and as members of a community coming together. And in the challenging glare of the Covid-19 Pandemic, this mission of unity and reconnecting as a community—local, national, and global—is especially needed now more than ever before.

The positive message of The Kindness Rocks & Smiles Community Project™ Workbook for Kids is directed specifically towards young people, who are approximately ages five to twelve. The content is easily adaptable to your specific goals and to whatever stage of growing and learning your child, or group of children, is at in life. In fact, at home, in the classroom, or elsewhere, the nine chapters can even be used at a monthly pace—one chapter per month—throughout the school year. Or, the workbook could be completed a chapter a week over summer break.

The nine chapters focus on the language of kindness; the meaning of community; the empowering force of everyday words and gestures; diversity, equity, and inclusion; mental health and well-being; kindness across generations; the creativity of kindness; how YOU are the “I” when it comes to kindness, smiles, and community; and the joys of actively sharing kindness and smiles with others. Each chapter invites your child or group of children into a space filled with creative hands-on self-reflection and expression, conversations, and learning about some of the most crucial issues of our time.

Within these pages, the young people in your life will have the opportunity to share and celebrate what makes them and others unique, while better understanding how they especially belong and can contribute to the various communities around them.

The content within these chapters can easily be explored by each child on their own, or adapted for larger gatherings, such as classes and any other community groups. You can also mix and match the content in this workbook, tailoring the questions and activities to the specific subjects or issues you want to address with the kids in your life or that are most pertinent to your family, class, group, or community.

Ultimately, the goal of The Kindness Rocks & Smiles Community Project™ Workbook For Kids is to guide and carry young people wherever they need to go in any given moment, and to be a space for inspiration, reflection, expression, fun, learning, and coming together, as well as a reminder that the world is a better, kinder place because they are in it!
