For two-and-a-half years, spanning three different school years, the creative collective of St. Marys Area High School’s Dutch Manufacturing x John Schlimm x Community Education Center of Elk & Cameron Counties brainstormed, researched, developed, designed, drafted, fundraised via local businesses and organizations, and built The Pillars: A Monument Honoring Our Local Carbon and Powdered Metal Industries.
In a joint statement, the collective said, “Pooling our collective skills—across science, technology, engineering, arts, math, and community service—our goal from the start has been to create something groundbreaking in our area that both honors the men and women of our iconic manufacturing industries and connects past, present, and future. . . . The enormity of this honor is not lost on us as we build a space of history, learning, and inspiration that will be a point of pride for every member of our local communities and a stunning, selfie-worthy destination for visitors to our area.”
The Pillars was completed in June 2026 and will be dedicated on a date to be announced.
